December 2008 Update

Dear Member,

Here is your update to December 2008 along with your 2009 membership renewal.

New Range Facility -

Project management & engineering by “Maple Reinders” is at an advanced stage with drawings updated for the 25m. range selected by you, the membership, at the July special meeting.

Your Building Committee has been working closely with Maple Reinders in the selection of specialty engineering companies who have provided expert input for acoustical, airflow, fire safety, parking, and range design, all recommendations have been incorporated in the revised drawings.

Backstop and target retrieval systems, firing line, and lounge/office areas have also been reviewed so the final tender documents should be ready to be sent out to trades for bids shortly. We hope to have a complete package with final pricing etc. ready for your approval at the coming AGM.

There is still much to be done, with construction scheduled to start early in the new year when financing should also be hopefully finalized.

Lawsuit -

The lawsuit is still on hold pending our environmental and wetlands experts producing a viable solution to the issues. The complainant has been very patient and cooperative in trying to resolve the situation, we are all awaiting the expert’s reports!

Important Notices -

From Permit Coordinator

A.T.T. Permit Renewals July 30th, 2009 – Please note that all of the authorisation to carry permits held by Peel Handgun Club members will expire on July 30th, 2009. Paid up members who hold a
valid firearms licence and A.T.T. do not have to apply to the club for renewal.

The club will forward a list to the Chief Firearms Office by the end of May 2009, and your renewed A.T.T.’s should be received by the club and mailed to each member prior to the expiry date. The permits will be valid for a 3-year term.

Once again, if your firearm licence expires during this term your A.T.T. becomes invalid. The club should then be notified by the member with the new information so that a new A.T.T. can be issued by the CFO.

Training Volunteers Urgently Needed.

With the expected number of new or transfer members to this club we will need numerous handgun safety trainers, also most of us would welcome a short refresher course before we fire that much anticipated first shot at the new range! For those members wishing to help out we ask that you

have, or acquire, CSSA basic club trainer status, we will arrange for CSSA classes for the interested parties.

It is our intention to invite all disciplines that can be safely accommodated in a 25m range. Advanced discipline experts are invited to contact the training coordinator for consultation....We need your help!

If you are, or know of accredited instructors in I.S.S.F., N.R.A., I.P.S.C. or I.D.P.A. Please call.

Tel. 416-648-2617 E-mail johnphg (@ symbol) rogers.com

(Our apologies as the above email address was incorrect on the version that was mailed to all current members)

Recap - For those members who did not attend the “Special Meeting” in July 2008 called for the purpose of seeking membership input into choice of a 50m range or a 25m range the members in attendance voted overwhelmingly for the 25m option, even though most of the Board of Directors recommended the 50m option. Following the meetings mandate, Maple Reinders were instructed to complete design and engineering for the 25m range. Please see Project Managers report on the following page.

A renewal form is included for your 2009 membership, we hope you will continue your support for your new range project. Also we would once again request volunteers, with time available to help in the various activities and committees, to come forward and contact your Board members.

Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday and all the best for the New Year.

For P.C.G.& F.P.A.

The Board of Directors

Peel County Game and Fish Protective Association

107 Nuggett Court, Brampton, ON L6T 5A9

Mailing: P.O. There was quite a long wait caused, in part, by the restructuring of the CPFO's office and transfer of personnel.

The good news is that with some influence by Richard Simpson and the cooperation of the CPFO we received a letter from the CPFO's office on October 24th authorizing the Club to go to the next stage.

Your committee members are meeting and corresponding with interested contractors to receive proposals for supply and construction of the new facilities - the end result will be a complete new range with the building modified in accordance with current regulations.

Our arrangement with "Six-Points" providing Peel with a temporary "home range" has been renewed by the "Six-Points" board. We thank them for their cooperation in providing our current members access to the facilities and permitting the continuance of our Club.Remember to carry your identification (membership card) and as always follow the requirement of carrying correct, up to date/current paperwork such as license and ATT's - also please sign into the Peel membership log at the range. The club is located at 605 Royal York Road - east side of Royal York, north of Queensway and east of 427, next to a fire station and is available on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 11:00PM.

As reported to you previously all of the deals for the saleable lands at Heart Lake Road have closed leaving sufficient funds available in the coffers for construction to commence. The Club has hired the firm of Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd. to manage the planning and construction of our new range. Major updates at the AGM.

Part of the Heart Lake property still remains in the ownership of P.C.G.F.P.A. This piece of property is primarily the "swamp" area which has been identified as 'contaminated' and remains the cause of a current law suit against the association and it's directors. Your association has spent considerable funds on consultants and soils investigations with the hope that a suitable solution to the issue(s) can be found and the land (swamp) utilized for some useful purpose.Work is ongoing.

As the year comes to a close we have to think about renewing our memberships and our commitment to see our range project completed.

Your Board has discussed the renewal fee structure in great detail with every member of the Board agreeing that to continue asking our members to renew while being unable to provide a Brampton range is becoming tedious!

However that is exactly what we have to do!! In recognition of this your Board has authorized a one time discount on this year fees.

The building upkeep, property taxes, insurance and utilities still all have to be budgeted and paid for and that funding should be catered for by membership dues. Please take a moment to complete your renewal form and update all information.

Thank you.

Bob Calvert - President

You can find a PDF version of this newsletter at here.
You can find a PDF version of the membership renewal form for existing members only here.

Membership Renewal

December 31, 2006 Dear Member, The enclosed Renewal Form has been delayed this year so we could bring you the news of our property sales;

the Senator deal for the small N.E. section closed last month,

the City deal for the road Allowance closed on December 21, 2006,

both the triangle to the S.E. of the road allowance and the remaining six acres (approx.) should close on January 4th, 2007.

The good news is we are closing, or have closed, all of the useable property for sale. The bad news is that we have been served legal documents requiring that we deposit the proceeds (or most of them) into a trust fund pending a motion to the courts requesting our funds be frozen and not used until the motion is resolved. The legal proceedings have been commenced against the Association, its officers and directors, Ranburne Holdings and the City of Brampton claiming the funds should be used for other purposes. Stand by for more information on this matter as it proceeds. Now for more good news- – we have arranged temporary use of the Six Points range at 650 Royal York Road. Our members have use of the range on Monday evenings only from 6:30PM to 11:00PM. Your PCGFPA identification card must be displayed and you must sign-in using the book provided. The range is located at 605 Royal York Road – east side of Royal York, north of Queensway and east of 427, next to a fire station. Meanwhile, please support the completion of your range project by renewing your 2007 membership now. All the very best for 2007. This should be an exciting year as we plan and complete the new ranges. Yours in fellowship, Robert Calvert
President Download the 2007 Application for Membership Renewal here (.pdf format)
